A fun collaborative weaving project for members of ADWSG - no previous weaving experience necessary!
Participate in a weaving round-robin, making a set of 4 to 5 woven coasters (approximately 5” x 5”) on a pre-warped rigid heddle loom. Completed coaster sets will be up for bid in the silent auction, with a starting bid of $20, at our annual holiday fundraising meeting in December.
7 pre-warped rigid heddle looms will be available to pass among participants each month. Weavers can use whatever yarns they have available as weft and may weave patterns of their choice. A few shuttles, dividers, needle, warp thread, samples, etc. will be provided with each loom. Members are also welcome to use their own loom to participate.
Each participant has a month to complete 4-5 coasters. Since the looms will be warped for many coasters, the weavings can remain on the loom when completed and final hemstitching and finishing can be done by the weaver or by Roxanne as the looms are passed around.
Whether you are a seasoned weaver or want a chance to learn, this project can be enjoyed by all members.
The fun kicks off in September and we will be round-robining for 3 months. The final coaster warps will need to be completed one week prior to our December meeting so that the coasters can be included in the annual holiday silent auction.
At the December meeting, place your bid for a set of coasters from one of your fellow weavers (or your own!). Bids will start at $20 and each coaster set will be beautifully packaged and ready for gifting!
Loom pickups and exchanges can be completed at our monthly guild meetings in October and November or arranged directly with Roxanne. For weavers signing up to start in September, Roxanne will arrange delivery of the looms. Looms with the first set of coasters woven will need to be brought to our October meeting or returned to Roxanne one week prior to the meeting so that our October weavers can get to work! The November weavers will receive their looms at our November meeting and will arrange a pickup or delivery with Roxanne at least one week prior to the December meeting so that coasters can be finished and packaged.
Sign up using the form below or email Roxanne directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
As a reminder, any weaver who wants to participate but prefers to weave on their own loom, the only criteria is approximate dimensions of 5" X 5”, finished ends and 4 or more coasters.
